Use the idea from this Survival Kit in a Sardine Can
Here’s a compact survival kit that actually survives being carried along. It’s watertight and it floats so in the event that you actually need it, everything inside is in perfect condition. It includes an amazing array of supplies for all outdoors enthusiasts including: hikers, campers, climbers, boaters, skiers, fishermen, off-roaders, bicyclists and you! Luck favors those who are prepared! Includes one each of: Acetaminophen, adhesive bandage, alcohol prep, antibiotic ointment, book matches, tea bag, chewing gum, sugar, salt packet, energy nugget, duct tape, fire starter cube, wire clip, first aid instructions, fish hook and line, note paper, pencil, razor blade, safety pin, whistle, compass, reflective signal surface and waterproof bag.
You will take this idea and make your own survival kit. Include in it things that are unique to him and his possible needs. You can use any kind of special tin or container to hold the supplies. You can even include a letter or poem for him telling how he can use these items to think of the two of you together. If he loves pizza, then include a kit card for a free pizza.

i think i photo album would be a great idea. you could put a bunch of pictures of the two of you and your favorite memories.. and then leave the last pages blank and say insert one favorite memory here on every one of the last pages. then at the end you can say with you theres always more then just one favorite!
i know its cheesy.. but i like it!

you can buy him some new software or a new web sight.. there are many options. if you would like you can get him a football jersey of his favorite team and player.
